Q: I have a question about the 1966 mustang?
I have a 1966 mustang coupe that does not have a radio. I want to get a radio but not an old radio. What type of radio would fit this? Also, I need to find a place where they sell 1966 mustang seats for cheap or just the frames.
A: they make reproduction ones that look like the stock radio but are actually CD players
Q: Where can I buy 1966 Mustang parts?

A: eBay.

Q: I need a convertible top for a 1966 Mustang. Any ideas where I can find the best price and quality?
I have heard Robbins tops are the best, any opinions will be appreciated.
A: I have a 1965 mustang fastback and I would order a mustang magazine. I have Mustang Enthusiast. The first page practically shows all the stuff that you can order and get. I really dont know any good places because im starting to work on it but you can also try eBay. eBay has helped me with stuff to get.
Q: What all is the difference between a 1966 Mustang Coupe and a Mustang GT?
i wanted to know all the details that makes the two editions different. Let me know thanks!!
A: The GT is a performance package that can come on a coupe, convertible or fastback 2+2. It consists of fog lights, dual exhaust, and a handling package with quicker steering, plus different gauge package and pony seats, more…
Also the GT’s were all A codes with 289 4 barrels with 225 HP
Beware, there are a lot of fake Gts out there that never came from the factory that way. Learn how to tell the difference in the group below..
Q: How expensive would it be to have a professional remove a vinyl top from a 1966 mustang?
If the vinyl top is not damaged, what kind of damage could I expect to find underneath and would it be expensive to get it fixed?
Thanks
I don’t really want to do it myself because I’m afraid of accidentally damaging it somehow.
A: by now any glue or anything else is long dried rotted off, just pull up one side starting on the back, and it should come off pretty easy, sometimes it has paint underneath, if there is dried glue this can be removed easily by a product like goof off if there is paint under the glue, just take car wax after you get the glue off and wax it up good. If you plan on putting on a vinyl top it may cost 800 to a grand. but taking it off is not that hard.
Q: I just put new leaf springs on my 1966 Mustang and now it has a rumble when going down the road?
The rear end is all measured out and everything is straight, but it still makes a bad rattle.
I double checked everything and it appears as though when I installed the new U joint it did not get sat down into the yoke properly. I readjusted it this afternoon and she drives smooth as silk. Thank you to both of you, and it is an all rebuilt car that I kept orginal specs on.
A: straight pinion angle? nice and tight u-joint clamps? good u joint? good, new bushings in the springs? axle perfectly square to the frame? frame straight? u bolts locked down tighter than fort knox?
Q: is it expensive to maintain a 1966 mustang with a 6 cylinder engine and between 50-100k?
I’m talking price wise and how often they break down.
A: I guess it all comes down to how well the engine was maintained during that 0-100k period in its life. If the engine to your knowledge has never been rebuilt and you don’t know how well it was treated prior to you acquiring (I don’t know if you actually own the car or are thinking of purchasing it) the Mustang then I would just reserve it for an in-town daily driver (no long trips).
As far as maintenance goes price wise, if the drive-train is mechanically sound, it just might be cheaper than the vehicle you are currently driving. Engine, transmission, differential, and brakes are all inexpensive/easy to maintain but you have to make sure that they are good to start with. If one of those mentioned needs replaced/rebuilt, it will cost you a fair amount but to put it into perspective a rebuilt 1992 Toyota Camry V6 engine would cost $2,390 vs. a Ford 200 6cyl costing $1,190 for the 1966 Mustang. You would still have to pay a fair amount but still a lot cheaper than than other makes for the same type of part.
Hope this helps.
Q: How much do you think a 1966 mustang is worth?
The transmission and radiator have just been replaced ….the interior has been refurbished..this car is in mint shape..really all it needs is a new paint job due to bits of rust. i am thinking it is worth 10,000 …being an antique & all. But i would like to know what you people think? How much is it worth?
A: Unless it’s a fastback with the hi-po 289 your expectations are overly optimistic. When someone is looking for a classic car and the phrase or variation of the phrase “Perfect condition, only needs paint” is in the ad, it’s a huge red flag. You can’t help but think “If the car is in such good condition, why wasn’t it painted during restoration?
The value of this car will vary wildly. If it’s a basic I6 with an automatic, you’re probably looking around 5 grand, if has a 289 with the 4 speed manual, then it’ll be closer to 7 or 8 grand. More information is needed to give better estimate of it’s value. What engine does it have? What transmission? What color is it? What factory options does it have? Where did it spend most of it’s life? etc.
Q: what is the difference in exhaust from a 1966 mustang to a 1967.?
I was looking at the v-8 flowmaster kit for my 66 mustang, but there only making one for 67+. Is there a way this will work on a 66, and what do i have to change.
A: the 67 body is longer & wider then 64-66 the 66 system will not fit it! flowmaster does make kits for 66 look on flowmastermufflers.com two kits #17334 and #17273 good luck !
Q: How do vacuum lines go in a 1966 mustang 289?
I cannot remember how the vacuum lines are set up. It’s a 289. Any links or explanations would be much appreciated.
-Thanks
A: there’s only a few. one comes off the base of the carb to the front of the intake manifold into the temp switch and back out of it to the distributor vacuum advance. another runs from the base of the carb to the trans shift module. power brakes booster(if equipped)comes from the rear of the intake manifold. i’m not sure if 66 had cold start on the air cleaner.(tube attached to the exhaust manifold to preheat air)
Q: Question about 1966 Mustang tranny replacement?
I have gotten a 302 engine with the 302 tranny, I want to put the 302 tranny in my 1966 mustang. What kind of problems will i be facing with this task?
It has an orginal, 289 v8 engine and orginal 289 tranny, floor mounted stick
by stick I mean gear shifter
Automatic transmission not manuel on the orginal and the 302
A: I just read your other post. You are talking about a 302 with an AOD on it. You will need to get a modified rear transmission mount and you’ll need to change your drive shaft. Read here on what you need to do:
http://www.mustangandfords.com/howto/16159_engine_aod_transmission_swap/index.html
Depending on the year of the engine, you may need to change the oil pan and oil pump.
The biggest problem is getting the engine out and back in. You should get a hoist with a jig that allows you to change the angle of the engine.
Q: 1966 Mustang makes a puttering/chugging sound?
I drive a 1966 Ford Mustang with a in-line six. Recently she started making a chugging/puttering sound. I replaced the exhaust doughnut which quieted her down, but she is still making that sound. She runs great, but that sound dose have me worried. If anyone can tell me what could possibly be making that sound I will be grateful.
A: From the sounds you’re making it could be several things.
Have you checked the exhaust pressure? Check for holes in the system or small exhaust leaks.
I would think it’s a dead cylinder. Check if any of the spark plugs are fouled.
Q: 1966 mustang w/ a 302 engine. what cam would be a good choice for street and some strip preformance?
1966 302 (yes its a different engine i know) mustang 4brrl carb @ 600 cfm. Will have headers on it. What cam would be good to give me that great sound and preformance. Is used everyday but its also used for some moderate racing.
A: something like the comp cams CL31-242-3 its a 268/280 adv duration .509 intake .512 exhaust 1600-5800 rpm. this will give you a good idle sound and quality along with good torque and horsepower rating. works pretty good with stock intake and torque converter. your carb should be just fine maybe some rejetting and tunning would help although. remember to get new springs too, never know how long those you have have been in there or if there worn. besides its always a good idea too match them with the cam and lifters.
Q: How much is a 1966 mustang convertible 200 worth?
it’s got a 200 straight 6. When restored how much is it worth?
A: The value will depend on the quality of the restoration, and if the vehicle is original or not. For example, if the engine has been changed (meaning that the numbers do not match the VIN, The vehicle is worth a lot less.
According to Gold book, that car can be worth anywhere from $6500 or so (assuming matching numbers and original condition) to $14,000 in show condition.
Every variation from stock (even the battery and tires) cause the value to be reduced.
Many people watch the Barrett- Jackson auctions and get an unrealistic view of classic car values. To be worth a lot of money, the car must be original or have a superior restoration done on it. Some restorations can cost $30,000 -$100,000 for show cars.
